Impacts of the project

SERENDI-PV will pave the way towards higher PV penetration through a better understanding of the PV installed capacity, smart digital models for energy and services communication exchange between system stakeholders

The project will advance the development of mid-term, short-term forecasting, and nowcasting for PV system aggregations, new business models for PV added revenue, and the creation of a collaborative platform for modelling, data analytics, QC, databases and grid integration.

Reliable, Effective and Profitable

SERENDI-PV will contribute to increasing the reliability of PV systems, by improving the knowledge of PV components and system's failures, providing better solutions through operations and maintenance, developing virtual and digital twins at component level (inverters, batteries), and assessing the collective reliability of a PV fleet from a grid operators’ point of view. It will establish accurate operation and fault diagnostic models.

Increased PV-grid

Performance with greater stability

SERENDI-PV will increase the real performances of PV systems by improving modelling tools for energy production forecasting and failure detection algorithms, especially for emerging applications such as the use of bifacial modules and floating PV systems.

For these technologies, SERENDI-PV has proposed several specific tasks that aim to make sure that all the necessary developments at all levels will take place so that these technologies can also benefit from expected performance ratio improvements.

PV integration

Utility-friendly

SERENDI-PV will improve system management with high shares of PV electricity by allowing grid operators to get accurate data about the grid-connected PV fleet, energy production and service provision.

The grid operators will be able to plan operations and ensure system stability with a better picture of the PV installed capacity, energy production (including forecasts and curtailment possibilities) and ancillary services availability.

By decreasing the level of uncertainty on the contribution of PV to the system, SERENDI-PV will increase the confidence of grid operators in managing high PV shares.

Accelerate

European PV development

SERENDI-PV will accelerate the development of PV in Europe by improving a combination of technical and psychological factors improving its competitiveness, its ability to be seamlessly integrated into the distribution and transmission grids and to be dispatchable enough to increase its penetration in electricity grids, while providing ancillary services.

SERENDI- PV will support the objective of positioning the European Union as the key leader in renewable energy technologies.
